This Position Statement is intended to describe how we fulfil our responsibility towards the planet by use of sustainable product packaging. In this respect, we focus on essential elements and work to develop simple and effective solutions to the challenges faced in today’s changing environment. The Statement provides an overview of the approach taken by Marley Alutec.
Background
Marley Alutec strongly believes that long-term business success can only be achieved by assuming responsibility for people and planet. For this reason, we consider ecological and social criteria throughout our product supply chains – from raw materials to final production. Global threats, such as growing deforestation, rising carbon emissions, and the littering of our earth‘s oceans with plastic waste, can be increasingly observed. Environmental awareness among our customers is increasing and we strive to stay updated and aspire for all our product packaging to be designed in the most sustainable way possible.
Sustainable & environmentally responsible product packaging
The primary role of packaging is to protect the product and to facilitate handling. Marley Alutec are constantly reviewing the availability of sustainable quality packaging materials and packaging methods to ensure products arrive safely and securely whilst supporting the environment. Recent changes include biodegradable bubble wrapping, plastic sleeving and bags contain greater than 30% recycled content. Packing tapes are all paper based and our Evoke range of Soffit, Fascia and Copings supplied in wooden crates conform to ISPM15 heat treated & stamped supplied using sustainable, responsible, renewable, and recyclable materials where possible and all manufactured within the UK.
5 Levels of Waste Hierarchy
The hierarchy identifies our key priorities and focus, looking to Reduce – Reuse – Recycle materials, other waste recovery and disposal methods remain our lowest priority.
- Reduce: focus on correct sized packaging, avoiding unnecessary packaging using sustainable eco-friendly materials
- Reuse: Packaging design for multiple uses, reducing over stocking and minimising waste disposal
- Recycle: Maximise recyclability and recycled content of packaging materials
